Leading with Japanese: How a Study Abroad Adventure Sparked a Career in International Business
Have you considered studying abroad in a country where you don’t know how to read, write, or speak the language? That is exactly what Jonathan Scharf did in Japan during college, and the edifying experience has led him to a career in international business in Asia.
As his career grew, Jonathan held multiple expatriate positions in Japan and Singapore for 14 years. He now runs an international sales and marketing entry consulting company called Access Asia that specializes in creating and sustaining growth strategies for companies in the United States and Asia—particularly in Japan. He says that learning a language has opened many doors for him and has afforded him opportunities that he otherwise would not have had, if he were monolingual.
It’s never too late to get started learning a language. Set off on your own journey and see where it takes you!
