Foreign Flick Friday: Russian Short Charms Festival Goers with Father-Son Story

No matter your language or culture, it’s a universal plea known to (and dreaded by) parents across the globe: “Can I keep him?”

But what would you do if your son not only came home with a hedgehog in tow, but told you that he traded in a winning lottery ticket for his new pet?

This is the premise of independent filmmaker Alexandra Tsareva’s 2011 short, The Hedgehog. A charming and humorous story, the film has won over audiences and taken international and Russian festival prizes from ARTSHORT, Kinometr, Piterkit, and others.1
